Two transformers fot station Dörpen West

For the expansion of the transformer station Dörpen West in Germany two 475 mton transformers needed to be transported through inland waters of The Netherlands and Germany. Dörpen West is expanding thanks to the renewable energy market. These onshore transformers were the effect of the Dolwin offshore wind project.

Marine Heavy Lift Partners were asked to verify the structural integrity of the barge Lastdrager 23 and 24 from Van der Wees for a multiple cases.

To gain sufficient headroom for passing low bridges, the transformers needed to be jacked down, leaving no room for proper load spreading, thus resulted in very high concentrated deck loads.

For the load-out operation a similar situation occurred under the support of the ro-ro ramp.

For both situations the barges have been reconstructed as a finite element model (FEM). The models were used to check the internal strength.

The transport and ro-ro operation was successfully executed on 13-12-2015.
